Ed Slack and The Slackestra

Ed Slack and The Slackestra

The Slackestra (Ed Slack, Ted Slack, CC, and Mood Control) was formed in 1996 in Denton, Texas, and several of the prior members have moved to other states and re-formed. Prior members consisted of a "who's who" of Texas bands, including Mingo Fishtrap, Whitey, Sweet William and the Blues Cats, Eclectic, and Aurora. Wikipedia even has an article about them... I guess you'd say they're an ironic group of progressive blues/jazz players. Some of their music is, frankly, unlistenable, while some of it sparkles with a fresh originality and fierce emotion.

The Jupes

The Jupes

Geologically speaking,The Jupes have been playing together for only the wink of an eye. As we all know however, a wink is as good as a nod to a blind horse. For those of you with no pre-Jupes memory, with the exception of the ice age and the advent of the semiconductor micro chip, you really haven't missed much.

The Jupes have been entertaining rabid fans and curious strangers since the late 1980's. Home base is the Twin Cities (MN) and their troubadour travels have taken them from the North Shore down to the Coulee Region and many points of interest that lie between. They have performed at classy bars and dirty dives both outside and in.

The Exchange

The Exchange

Band biographies are simple. Maybe a few guys have been making music together for a while. Maybe they lose and gain a member. They tweak the formula here and there to establish the sound they desire. Inevitably they grow older, their musical tastes evolve, and a style is forged.

Meet one such band, Indie-rock quartet The Exchange. Piano-led, hook-laden, pop/rock is the name of the game, while an energetic and entertaining live show is what their fan base has come to expect. They are not complex or mysterious artists, but an innovative band with a sincere delivery. Hailing from sleepy St. Paul, Minnesota, these fellows have been practicing their trade (in one form or another since 2002). Recently the band has settled into a piano-bass-drums-guitar lineup, allowing them to find their sonic niche.

In the past two years, The Exchange has self-released 2 albums which have sold over 1,000 copies at performances and through the official band website, www.exchangeband.com. Both 2004's EP 'Aperture' and 2005's full-length 'The Day Before' have garnered positive press from the Twin Cities and the Upper Midwest alike. In the past year, The Exchange has shared the stage with Mason Jennings, Tapes 'N' Tapes, Haley Bonar and The Alarmists and has wowed audiences with repeat performances at some of the Twin Cities finest clubs such as the Triple Rock Social Club, the 400 Bar, Big V's, The Cabooze and The Fine Line. The band has also performed across the Midwest at numerous music venues and college campuses.
